Getting Here & Around

How do I get to Cozumel from the hostel?+

The Cozumel ferry terminal is just an 8-minute walk from our door. We can also help you book snorkeling and diving excursions.

Do you offer airport transfers?+

We don't arrange airport transfers directly, but our team is happy to help you with all the information you need on how to get to Maui Playa del Carmen.

What day trips can I do from Playa del Carmen?+

Top picks: Cozumel (45 min ferry, world-class diving and snorkeling), Tulum ruins and beaches (1 hr ADO bus), Cenotes Ruta de los Cenotes (30 min), and Isla Mujeres via Cancún. We sell discounted tickets and shared tours at reception.

Is Playa del Carmen walkable?+

Yes — the entire tourist zone (5th Avenue, the beach, ADO bus terminal, Cozumel ferry) is walkable from our hostel. You won't need taxis unless you're heading to cenotes or Tulum.

Playa del Carmen Travel Tips

When is the best time to visit Playa del Carmen?+

December to April brings the best weather (sunny, dry, around 27 °C) but also the highest prices. May, June and late October are the sweet spot — warm, cheaper and far less crowded. July–September is hot, humid and rainy at times, but unbeatable for backpacker budgets.

Playa del Carmen or Tulum — which should I pick?+

Playa is walkable, has cheaper food, livelier nightlife and direct ferries to Cozumel. Tulum is more jungle, cenotes and digital-nomad slow-living. We run a hostel in each town, and the ADO bus between them is only 1 hour, so most travelers do both.

What are the best beaches in Playa del Carmen?+

Playa Mamitas and Playa Punta Esmeralda (Calle 110) are the local favorites — both with white sand and free public access. Mamitas is closer (10 min walk) and more lively; Punta Esmeralda is calmer with a freshwater cenote running into the sea.

Can I drink the tap water in Playa del Carmen?+

No — drink bottled or filtered water. We provide free filtered water at the hostel so you can refill and skip the plastic bottles.

Best neighborhoods to stay in Playa del Carmen

Playa is walkable and small — but the area you stay in changes everything. Here's where backpackers actually base themselves when looking for hostels in Playa del Carmen.

Centro / 5th Avenue — our pick

Walking-distance to the beach, ferry to Cozumel, bars and restaurants. Calle 4 to Calle 14 is the sweet spot. Maui Playa is 1 block from the Quinta between Calle 6 & Calle 8.

Zona Norte (Calle 28+)

Quieter, more local, beach clubs and yoga studios. 15 min walk to the action. Better for longer stays — see our digital nomad guide to Playa del Carmen for WiFi, coworking and cost of living.

Playacar

Gated all-inclusive resort area south of the ferry. Pretty but isolated, no real hostels, no walking nightlife. Skip for backpacking.
